Exercise Stress Test / Exercise Stress Echo

 

  1. Please bring your medication list with you.

  2. If you were asked to stop cardiac medications, ensure they have been stopped for 3 days before the test.  IF you have not been told otherwise, continue taking your medications, including the day of the test.

  3. Bring running shoes or comfortable walking shoes, a bottle of water and a towel.  Dress comfortably.

  4. Have a light breakfast or lunch depending on appointment time.

  5. Arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Holter Monitor

 

  1. Bring your medication list with you.  

  2. The monitor is smaller than the size of an iPhone.  It is connected to 5 cables that are attached to stickers and are placed on the chest.  They monitor your heart rate for a specific period of time.  It is best to wear a top with a high neck line to conceal the electrodes from plain sight.  Note that if the monitor is to be worn for a 48 to 72 hour period, one cannot take a shower or remove the device from the skin.  If the device is to be worn longer, we provide replacement stickers and explain to you how to reposition the electrodes on your chest.

  3. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.

Echocardiogram

  1. Bring your medication list with you.

  2. No preparation is required.  The test takes approximately 40 minutes.

  3. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor (ABPM)

 

  1. Bring your medication list with you.

  2. The monitor is placed around your arm for a 24 hour period.  You are required to wear it for the entire monitoring period. 
    It will inflate the armband every 20-30 minutes during the day and less frequently in the evening.

  3. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.

Spirometry

 

  1. Spirometry is a common resting pulmonary function test used to diagnose and follow many lung disorders. It typically takes 15 minutes to complete the test. It may be repeated after receiving an inhaled medication.

  2. For new consults, you will be instructed to hold your inhalers on the same day as the test.

  3. Please bring your medication list with you, including inhalers (Ventolin) and aerochambers (if you have one).

  4. Please arrive 20 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.

  5. For follow up appointments, you do not need to withhold your inhalers.
